Securing Democracy: Firm Measures for West Bengal Assembly Polls

The Election Commission has unveiled a robust security strategy for the second phase of the West Bengal polls, focusing on preventing disruptions and ensuring voter safety. Measures include constituency-specific force deployment, motorcycle patrols, and CCTV installations, with officials emphasizing a peaceful and fair democratic process.

The Election Commission has rolled out a comprehensive security plan aimed at safeguarding the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections, scheduled for April 29. Emphasizing voter safety, instructions were issued to security personnel for strategic deployments across the constituencies.

At a high-level coordination meeting, officials, including senior police officers and central force commanders, assessed the readiness of 142 constituencies. A significant aspect of the security measures involves the use of 160 motorcycles, each manned by two Central Armed Police Forces personnel, to ensure rapid response in sensitive areas.

State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal emphasized the importance of free and peaceful voting, warning against fraudulent activities like bogus voting and booth capturing. CCTV coverage and strict perimeter control around polling areas are key components of the strategy to boost voter confidence and election transparency.
