North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has met with delegates of the ruling party's youth league congress in Pyongyang, reinforcing the pivotal role of young citizens in national and military initiatives. State media KCNA reported on Sunday that the Eleventh Congress of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League concluded with significant events, including mass rallies and a torchlight parade.
During the congress, Kim described youth as the 'vanguard' in achieving state objectives and emphasized the league’s importance in implementing party directives. He also stressed the need for organization and ideological discipline and posed for a group photo with participants. A letter from the ruling Workers' Party linked youth contributions to Pyongyang’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict, highlighting young soldiers’ sacrifices abroad.
The meeting comes amidst increased suppression of foreign cultural influences, as exposure to South Korean pop culture is deemed a serious political threat. The youth policy is presented as crucial for social stability. Kim frequently appears with his daughter, Ju Ae, underlining his focus on youth during major public events.
