Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday expressed his concerns over the recent Assembly election results in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He criticized what he termed as 'religious polarisation' in West Bengal and noted an unexpected sway among Tamil voters influenced by actor Vijay's appeal.
Siddaramaiah highlighted significant voter list irregularities in West Bengal, pointing to omissions of Mamata Banerjee supporters and the misuse of administrative power impacting the election outcome. He stressed the serious threat religious polarisation poses to India's democratic system and hoped for reevaluation in future elections.
Regarding Tamil Nadu, Siddaramaiah acknowledged the public appreciation for the DMK's welfare programs despite the anti-incumbency sentiment. He expressed confidence in Chief Minister M K Stalin's recovery from the electoral setback. Siddaramaiah also congratulated the Congress Party's anticipated victory in Kerala, attributing it to cohesive leadership and strategic campaigning.
