In a heated controversy, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh has assured the safety of renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat at the upcoming National Open Ranking Tournament scheduled in Gonda. The assurance follows Phogat's vocal concerns over potential bias at the event tied to former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Phogat, returning to competition after an 18-month hiatus, expressed fears of unfair officiating, calling for transparency. "If anything untoward occurs, the Indian government will be accountable," she stated, urging media and community presence for scrutiny. About 1400 wrestlers are set to compete, and the WFI insists changing the venue is impractical.

Vinesh Phogat now ventures into politics after winning a Haryana state assembly seat in 2024. She remains a key figure in an ongoing sexual harassment case against the former chief. Alleging government inaction, she criticized officials for merely observing amid ongoing legal battles, casting a shadow over her competitive return.
