Controversy Surrounds Senegal's World Cup Airport Security Checks
Senegal's football federation addresses social media outrage over security checks on their World Cup squad at a US airport. Videos showing players being screened sparked accusations of discrimination. The federation explained that the procedure aimed to expedite travel and comply with airport regulations.
Senegal's football federation found itself in the spotlight this week following the circulation of social media footage showing their World Cup squad undergoing what appeared to be targeted security checks on an airport tarmac.
The images, captured as the team was preparing to travel from Raleigh, North Carolina to San Antonio, Texas for a pre-tournament friendly against Saudi Arabia, led to accusations online of discriminatory treatment.
The federation addressed the uproar by clarifying that these measures were in accordance with standard security protocols and were designed to streamline the team's travel process. Senegal are set to begin their World Cup campaign against France on June 16.
