In a bid to boost its agricultural ties, Russia is keen to expand its pulses trade with India by exploring the production of urad and tur, the government announced on Tuesday.
Deputy Minister Maxim Titov led a Russian delegation in talks with Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare on Monday. They delved into opportunities for enhancing trade relations in the pulses sector.
Russia has recently emerged as a major supplier of lentils and yellow peas to India. In addition, while India continues to depend on substantial pulses imports to fulfill domestic shortfalls, the bilateral talks highlighted the possibility of Russia diversifying its production to include urad and tur.
