India Secures EU Market Access for Agri and Marine Exports Until 2026
India achieves continued access to the EU market for aquaculture and agri exports past 2026. The EU has approved India's shipments despite tightened AMR-related rules, ensuring smooth trade worth $1.59 billion annually. This development secures market continuity and growth opportunities for Indian exporters.
India has secured a significant trade victory with the European Union, ensuring its aquaculture and agricultural exports will remain authorized under new AMR-linked regulations. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed that key products such as honey, eggs, and aquaculture goods will continue to be exported to the EU beyond 2026, averting a potential disruption to the $1.59 billion fisheries trade.
The EU's amendment to Regulation (EU) 2021/405, through Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1189, addresses rising concerns over Antimicrobial Resistance. By maintaining its status as an authorized exporter, India ensures the continued flow of animal-origin products to the European market, with the new regulatory framework set to take effect in September 2026.
This accomplishment results from dedicated efforts by India's Department of Commerce and the Export Inspection Council, which have collaborated closely with the EU. By bolstering inspection and certification standards, India aligns with EU requirements, preserving export market access and promising growth and opportunity in the aquaculture sector.
