The Supreme Court on Wednesday turned down a petition requesting a CBI investigation into a purported 'honey-trap' incident involving a minister and other politicians in Karnataka. The bench consisted of Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta.
Social activist Binay Kumar Singh filed the PIL, which also called for the investigation to be overseen by the top court or a committee led by a retired Supreme Court judge. The petitioner argued that the media reports required thorough scrutiny.
Minister K N Rajanna revealed attempts to 'honey-trap' him and disclosed that similar tactics targeted 48 politicians, fostering a network reaching union ministers. The disclosures prompted assembly debates and demands for judicial inquiry.
