In Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, six police officials have faced suspension due to procedural missteps in probing an alleged opium smuggling case. The case involves an 18-year-old man who is contesting the charges against him, deemed false, in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The suspended officers, including the former station in-charge, two sub-inspectors, and three constables, are subjects of a departmental inquiry. Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena confirmed the suspensions, attributing them to 'procedural irregularities' in handling the smuggling case.
The young man, arrested under the NDPS Act in August for allegedly possessing 2.71 kg of opium, is supported by his lawyer, Himanshu Thakur, in the legal proceedings. After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court has reserved its decision on the petition.
