A Delhi court has acquitted Sunil Kumar, accused in a 2014 kidnapping case, citing lack of evidence. The prosecution couldn't establish the charges beyond a reasonable doubt as the victim was untraceable. This verdict highlights significant lapses in the investigative process.
The case, heard by Additional Sessions Judge Puneet Pahwa, originated from a complaint filed by Deen Dayal at the Sonia Vihar Police Station, alleging his 17-year-old daughter was missing along with valuables. However, the complainant, who was the only public witness during the trial, did not provide any incriminating evidence against Kumar.
The girl's disappearance complicated the case as even her parents were unaware of her whereabouts. The girl was eventually produced in court in 2017 by her father. Still, her absence during the trial and insufficient testimony led to Kumar's acquittal. The evidence, primarily the girl's pre-trial statement, wasn't adequate to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
