Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a stinging critique of the BJP's proposed changes to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. He alleged the ruling party was trying to tighten its grip on NGOs by manipulating legislation.
Through a social media post, Yadav emphasized contradictions in BJP's stance on foreign donations, questioning exemptions provided to the PM CARES Fund and validity of funds through now illegal electoral bonds. He also pointed out the unchecked flow of money to unregistered NGOs and religious entities, criticizing the government's overarching authority.
Labeling the proposed law as a reflective of authoritarian intent, Yadav warned that genuine NGOs were being targeted under the guise of regulatory control, while the actual offenders of illicit financial outflows remained unchecked. He urged for clarity and vowed that public disillusionment with BJP's alleged favoritism would eventually prevail.
