Describing Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India's modern military evolution, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the operation demonstrated the Indian Armed Forces' capability to execute "swift, precise and joint" military action capable of compelling adversaries to surrender.

Addressing the second edition of the Joint Commanders' Conference in Jaipur on May 08, 2026, the Defence Minister characterised Operation Sindoor as a "short-duration, deep-penetration, high-intensity and high-impact operation" that reflected India's emerging military confidence, technological advancement and integrated warfighting capability.

"Operation Sindoor is a testament to the swift, precise and joint response of the Indian Defence Forces to safeguard national interests," Shri Rajnath Singh said.

Calling the operation a symbol of India's "new military ethos", the Raksha Mantri said the mission reflected not only growing operational capability but also the nation's collective strategic resolve in responding decisively to threats.

India Preparing for Future Wars Beyond Conventional Battlefields

Highlighting the rapidly changing global security environment, Shri Rajnath Singh warned that future wars would increasingly extend beyond traditional battlefields and involve multidomain conflicts spanning cyber, space, electromagnetic and cognitive domains.

He urged the military leadership to aggressively strengthen capabilities in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Autonomous military systems

  • Data analytics

  • Secure communication networks

  • Information warfare systems

  • Cyber resilience technologies

According to the Defence Minister, future conflicts will be shaped not merely by conventional firepower, but by information dominance, rapid decision-making capability and technological superiority.

"Future wars will not be won solely through weaponry, but through innovative thinking and enhanced synergy," he stated.

The remarks come amid accelerating global military investments in AI-enabled warfare systems, autonomous drones, cyber capabilities and quantum-secure communication technologies, signalling India's intent to modernise its defence architecture in line with emerging geopolitical realities.

'Element of Surprise' Must Remain India's Strategic Advantage

In a significant operational message to senior military commanders, Shri Rajnath Singh stressed the importance of cultivating the "element of surprise" as a key strategic advantage in modern warfare.

He urged commanders across the Army, Navy and Air Force to remain unpredictable to adversaries while simultaneously preparing against unexpected enemy actions.

"Remain two steps ahead of the enemy at all times," he told the commanders.

Defence analysts view the statement as reflecting India's increasing focus on proactive deterrence, rapid-response capability and integrated operational planning in an era of hybrid warfare.

Jointness and Integration Emerging as Core Military Doctrine

The Defence Minister also praised the progress achieved in enhancing jointness among the three Services, describing integration as one of the most important transformations underway in the defence sector globally.

The conference focused extensively on strengthening interoperability between the Army, Navy and Air Force through common doctrines, integrated communication systems and coordinated operational planning.

During the event, Shri Rajnath Singh released:

  • The Hindi version of Vision 2047

  • The Joint Doctrine for Integrated Communication Architecture

The doctrine is expected to improve interoperability, doctrinal clarity and integrated communications during future multidomain operations.

The move aligns with India's broader military reforms initiated after the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the push toward integrated theatre commands.

Documentary on Operation Sindoor Released

A documentary film on Operation Sindoor was also unveiled during the conference, reaffirming India's emphasis on operational readiness and decisive national response capabilities.

Officials said the documentary captures the operational preparedness, coordination and execution strategy that defined the mission.

Though detailed operational specifics remain classified, the Defence Minister's remarks strongly suggest that Operation Sindoor involved rapid precision military action with significant strategic outcomes.

The two-day conference, themed "Military Capability in New Domains", brought together the top leadership of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to deliberate on future warfare challenges.

Key focus areas included:

  • AI-enabled warfighting concepts

  • Cognitive warfare

  • Cyber warfare resilience

  • Quantum-enabled threats

  • Multidomain operations

Military demonstrations during the conference showcased advanced systems designed for:

  • Intelligence fusion

  • Operational planning

  • Information management

  • Real-time decision support

The showcased platforms highlighted India's increasing integration of advanced technologies into joint military structures.

India Accelerating Indigenous Military Modernisation

Reiterating the Narendra Modi government's commitment to military modernisation, Shri Rajnath Singh said India continues to focus on acquiring state-of-the-art weapons and platforms while simultaneously boosting indigenous research and development in niche defence technologies.

Special emphasis, he said, is being placed on strengthening domestic innovation ecosystems and reducing dependence on foreign military technologies.

The conference discussions are expected to significantly shape India's long-term military transformation roadmap and integrated defence preparedness strategy.

Top Defence Leadership Attends Conference

The high-level conference was attended by senior military and civilian leadership including:

  • Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan
