Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong has condemned the recent defence deal between North Korea and Russia as destabilising and risky for global security. During her visit to the tense border village shared by North and South Korea, Wong voiced concerns over the pact.
In June, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a pact for mutual military assistance if attacked, raising alarm over deepening ties. The US and allies accuse North Korea of supplying arms to Russia for Ukraine in exchange for aid.
Wong denounced North Korea's missile tests threatening regional stability and met South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul in Seoul to discuss defence and economic security cooperation.
