ABC has announced that both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have agreed to a presidential debate set for September 10, marking a significant event in the race between the Republican and Democratic nominees.

The revelation came soon after Trump disclosed at a news conference his proposal for three presidential debates to be aired on three television networks. He confirmed he had agreed to some dates in September.

Trump's reentry into the ABC debate follows his earlier social media statement that he would not participate, a decision influenced by a lawsuit he filed. This sets the stage for a pivotal point in the election, especially after Democratic President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris.

"I think it's very important to have debates," Trump declared on Thursday. "I look forward to the debates because I think we have to set the record straight." The Harris campaign has yet to respond to the announcement.

Earlier this week, Trump hinted at an announcement regarding the presidential debate after initially pulling out of an ABC News debate set for September 10, following Biden's exit from the race. He had expressed a preference for Fox News as the debate sponsor, but showed willingness to reconsider ABC.

Trump echoed critiques from his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, highlighting Harris's lack of news conferences or interviews since Biden's withdrawal and her entry into the race.

While Harris maintains a travelling press pool on Air Force Two, Trump does not have a regular press entourage for his campaign travels. Vance, meanwhile, has journalists accompany him and has been campaigning in states with concurrent events by Harris and Walz, including a notable moment on Wednesday in Wisconsin when campaign aircrafts shared the same tarmac.
