The recent display of a Bharat Mata portrait at a government event in Kerala has reignited controversy. State General Education Minister V Sivankutty walked out of the event at Raj Bhavan in protest, condemning the image associated with the RSS being showcased at an official programme.
The incident follows a similar event earlier this month, where Agriculture Minister P Prasad also boycotted an Environment Day event due to the portrait's presence. The row has sparked tensions between the CPI leadership and the Governor, who insists on keeping the Bharathambha image at the forefront despite opposition.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the decision, labeling the display as a move supporting the ideological agenda of the RSS. Opposition Leader V D Satheesan noted the government's delayed response, suggesting earlier action might have prevented the escalation. The portrayal of Bharat Mata continues to be a point of contention in the state's political landscape.
