The Punjab BJP's Mahila Morcha organized a protest on Saturday against the AAP government for allegedly failing to deliver on its election promise of offering Rs 1,000 per month to women in the state.
Protesters, spearheaded by Morcha president Jai Inder Kaur, attempted to breach police barricades to reach the chief minister's camp office. The Chandigarh police detained them after thwarting their attempts. A significant police presence, including women officers, was stationed at the Punjab BJP office to prevent protesters from advancing.
Kaur addressed the demonstrators, accusing the government of deception and claiming it owes Rs 45,000 to each woman due to unfulfilled promises. She criticized the state of law and order under the Bhagwant Mann administration, citing daily snatching incidents. The protest called for the fulfillment of assurances made by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal during a rally in Moga before the 2022 elections.
