Global Energy Shift: Sechin's Take on Hormuz Closure

Rosneft's Chief Executive, Igor Sechin, criticized the United States for capitalizing on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, labeling the move a strategic effort to reshape global energy markets to its advantage.

Sechin's remarks came during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where he highlighted how the blockage, initiated by Iran following an attack involving the U.S. and Israel, disrupted a vital oil supply chain.

Sechin warned that this event highlighted strategic vulnerabilities and cautioned that other global routes, such as the Malacca and Bad El Mandeb straits, could face similar threats. He also discussed the challenges within OPEC+ due to member exits, emphasizing the need for investment to offset production declines.
