AirTrunk's Bold $30 Billion Investment to Transform India's AI Infrastructure
AirTrunk, backed by Blackstone and CPPIB, announces a $30 billion investment to develop 5GW of digital infrastructure in India by 2030. The initiative supports the growth of cloud and AI capabilities, focusing on sustainable and government-coordinated efforts, potentially generating significant economic and employment benefits nationwide.
AirTrunk, a data centre specialist supported by Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), has announced a massive investment of over $30 billion to establish more than 5 gigawatts of digital infrastructure in India by 2030. This initiative is one of the nation's largest digital ventures to date, aimed at bolstering India's burgeoning cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
The announcement comes after AirTrunk founder and CEO Robin Khuda's engagement with senior government officials in India, marking his first such interaction since AirTrunk acquired Lumina CloudInfra in April 2026. That acquisition marked AirTrunk’s foray into the Indian market with an initial deployment of 600 megawatts distributed across key regions like Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
During his visit, Khuda held discussions with federal and state representatives, including leaders from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, to deliberate on vital topics such as infrastructure, energy sustainability, and policy frameworks needed for AI-driven growth. The focus was on ensuring reliable power sources, renewable energy, and efficient government processes to support strategic project developments.
