In a stern warning to Beijing, a United States official has called on China to end its aggressive pressure campaign against Taiwan. Security analysts caution that China's increasing reliance on 'grey zone' tactics—subtle, non-military maneuvers—poses a mounting challenge to the island. This alert follows Taiwan's Coast Guard removal of five Chinese vessels from its restricted waters.

China's naval activities are reportedly part of its growing frustration over ongoing maritime boundary talks between Japan and the Philippines, situated in waters east of Taiwan. A spokesperson from the US Department of State affirmed to Taiwan's Central News Agency—cited by Taipei Times—that Washington stands in solidarity with its allies, backing Japan and the Philippines as they pursue non-confrontational solutions to maritime disputes in the region.

The US spokesperson urged Beijing's leadership to abandon its current strategies of military, diplomatic, and economic exertion against Taiwan, advocating instead for constructive dialogue with Taiwan's elected government. Meanwhile, Craig Singleton of the Foundation for Defence of Democracies highlighted that China's terminology, framing such actions as 'administrative law enforcement,' ensures they operate under a veil of ambiguity, complicating international response efforts.
