Tackling Tragedy: Jharkhand's Elephants and Human Safety

In response to the escalating man-elephant conflicts in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has called for immediate action to protect human lives. With 27 fatalities in recent months, Soren underscored the necessity of mapping elephant corridors and providing technical training to villagers in affected areas.

During a high-level meeting, Soren stressed the need for comprehensive measures to prevent elephants from straying into rural communities. This initiative also includes ensuring timely compensation for victims' families and deploying 'Kumki' elephants to aid in controlling the wild tuskers.

Forest officials informed the Chief Minister of ongoing efforts to establish a responsible rescue mechanism. A single rogue tusker killed 20 people in January, highlighting an urgent need for intervention. 'Our government is highly sensitive to these conflicts,' stated Soren, urging swift and efficient action.
