Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Marseille, France, where he paid tribute to V D Savarkar, a revered freedom fighter known for his attempted escape from British custody in 1910. Upon landing, Modi highlighted the city's significance in India's quest for independence.

Modi expressed gratitude to the French citizens of that era who advocated against Savarkar being handed back to the British. He also received a warm reception from the Indian diaspora. Additionally, the prime minister plans to inaugurate a new Indian consulate and honor Indian soldiers who fell in the World Wars.

During the visit, Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will undertake important engagements, including visiting the Mazargues War Cemetery and the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project.
