Increased security presence and heightened tensions marked the streets of the Falta area in South 24 Parganas district on Saturday, as local residents launched a protest against alleged threats from Trinamool Congress cadre. The demonstration occurred just days before the scheduled vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly elections on May 4.
The protest, which included several women, centered around concerns for personal safety following accusations that TMC's Israfil Chowkidar threatened violence if certain political outcomes were achieved. Despite some residents casting votes for the TMC, they claimed to be victims of intimidation and demanded accountability and protection.
Amidst the protests, repolling was underway in 15 booths due to reported irregularities, with voter turnout reaching over 55 percent. New controversies over election procedure arose as parties like the AITC and BJP claimed unauthorized actions regarding EVM management, resulting in the suspension of officials and increased security for the vote count.
