Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasized that the BJP's victory in West Bengal reflects a commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty. In a press briefing, Sarma highlighted this as a national triumph, not merely a political win.
He indicated that new border fencing plans between India and Bangladesh would proceed, addressing infiltration issues impacting several states, including Assam. This move, Sarma argued, strengthens national security and peace in the region.
Sarma criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to allocate land for necessary border fortifications, suggesting her inaction exacerbated regional infiltration problems. The BJP's election success, with 66 seats and leads in 138 constituencies, represents public endorsement of heightened national security measures.
